The Big Dipper constellation—the "drinking gourd" in the night sky guided runaway slaves along the Underground Railroad as they sang, "Follow the Drinking Gourd." The signpost secretly guiding them, passing directions north for escape. 
They persevered, embodying the spirit of "garra," until they reached freedom's light.
